Opening Roof Specialists is a family owned and operated company. The company was originally founded as Steelbond (Sydney) Pty Ltd in 1987, operating from a factory in Milperra. In 2014, the company changed names to reflect a new focus and specialty in high quality, long lasting, aluminium opening roof systems. Today, Opening Roof Specialists operates from a new facility based in Minto, NSW Australia which is approximately 50km from the Sydney CBD. Customers can book an appointment to visit the factory showroom and discuss their requirements for a complete, custom opening roof system.Our free measure and quote is offered with no obligation to purchase. It includes an upfront design consultation, concept drawing, and project proposal.

After a couple of decades in the manufacturing industry, Alex Pataky founded ORS (then called Steelbond Sydney Pty Ltd) over 30 years ago and became excited about opening roofs in 1989. Since then, the company has grown on the reliability of its products and its people.
When Opening Roof Specialists serviced the first ever Eclipse Opening Roof, the team immediately noticed the importance of after sales service. We work closely with our suppliers to innovate and create the best opening roof system on the market, and continue to support all our customers.
Also, the business can’t depend on only one person and I am proud of the team today that shares the simple philosophy of team effort – together everyone achieves more!

Before joining Opening Roof Specialists, I worked in the construction industry for over 20 years in the carpentry and roofing trades. Starting out as a carpenter on the tools, I worked my way up through the ranks to supervisor and eventually moved into the office to become General Manager.
After nearly twenty years in the fit-out industry, I was looking for a new challenge in my work life. After meeting Alex Pataky and the Opening Roof Specialists team, I thought their passion for their product was infectious and it was an easy choice to come on board. What stood out the most was Alex’s dedication to each customer, to make their experience as effortless and positive as possible.
I love the challenge of designing bespoke opening roofs for each individual client. Seeing the end results makes the hard work we all put in worthwhile.

The vast majority of work we do is with residential home owners in Sydney and surrounding suburbs between Sydney’s North Shore, Western Suburbs, Eastern Suburbs and as far south as the Southern Highlands and Illawarra. The Eclipse Opening Roof is capable to cover small alfresco areas up to large outdoor areas for shopping centres, hospitals, restaurants, apartments and more.

We only use aluminium materials in the construction of our frames, louvres and gutters. Aluminium has the superior advantage over painted steel systems in that the substrate will not rust. Where extra strengths is required for fixings we use stainless steel to create a long-term, lasting solution for the customer.

The majority of materials used to supply Opening Roof Specialists come from Australian companies. We prefer to source locally to support Australian industry, and for reliable warranty and quality control through local relationships. All finished products are assembled in Sydney by our team of experts.
Fully Insured Installers
Opening Roof Specialists installers are all trained in-house so the detailed knowledge of our products is understood and our special installation methods are followed. We only use our expert, fully insured installers who exclusively work for us. This ensures the highest standard is maintained and HBCF insurance is valid.

Opening Roof Specialists were a cut above the rest when it came to quality, professionalism and value for money. We recently had an louvred roof installed and a roller blind also and are thrilled with the result. They were a well oiled machine from beginning to the end. The install was particularly impressive not just in terms of quality (which was exceptional) but also the trades all turning up on time and being fantastic explaining each stage of the job. Just had my opening roof installed on a verandah patio extension to my new home. House feels so completed now and I’m in love. It actually closes in the rain which still give me the feels. The whole admin process before and after, being invited to view products at showroom and the 2 installers were all fantastic. Couldn’t recommend high enough.
Really happy with our new opening roof pergola! We have an outdoor deck, which had a shade sail above it. That worked great for the sun, but not for rain, so we wanted something a bit more permanent. We wanted opening louvres so that we could still let light into the house, as this is on the north side of the house, so would potentially block the midday sun. We got in touch with a few places and ended up going ahead with Opening Roof Specialists. Their quote was a little more than one of the other places, but we also got more for the money (a few extra features). The colours that were available to us work really nicely with our place, and we're really happy with the look. In the lead-up to the install, one of the chosen colours was discontinued, but it was no issue because the team came to us with a solution. We couldn't even tell the difference with the new colour. Thanks also to Grant for working with me on trying to add additional lights, which we've shelved for now. Grant was very friendly with all of this, even when I decided to not include them in the end, despite him putting time in to working through how we might include them. Sorry again about that Grant. The install went smoothly. There are always a few little issues that pop up during installs, but the team sorted it all out without a fuss - thanks Mick and Greg! Just when they'd packed up, we spotted a couple of very minor things and they were all too happy to unload a ladder to fix them, despite looking forward to going home. The install was expected to go for 7 days, and ended up being 6, which was a nice surprise. All was done on budget, too. It rained the day after it was installed, which let us test the rain sensor. The rain sensor worked perfectly - closing the louvres automatically before the deck underneath got wet. The lights are great at night - not too bright, but with enough coverage. The remote control is a little confusing at first, but it didn't take long to learn. We also included a Wifi box so that we can control the lights and louvres via a smartphone app. We're pretty thrilled with our new space! We can now be outside when it's raining, which is fantastic for when the kids want to do messy stuff. We can also open the louvres to let light in to the house - we were worried about making the house too dark but that's not a problem. We're looking forward to having people around to enjoy the space with us. Thanks again to everyone on the team at Opening Roof Specialists. I do love my opening roof system. Although it's only a small one, it makes an enormous difference.
It is a stunning structure, and the lighting is just fantastic for our surroundings. We have had a 100% increase in use of the space even now in winter as it is cosy and inviting at night and during the day. We just love it.

Jason spent many hours with multiple designs to work within our budget and outdoor area. There was no pressure at anytime to purchase . The product is first class. I would like to say a big thank you to you, Jason and Mark for the wonderful and amazing job you guys have done for my roof. My girls are loving it and surely will enjoy the outdoor area more often than usual.
I’m really precious about my house as I’ve done an entire restoration on an old federation myself. The thing that annoys me more than anything is tradies that have lost the passion for their work, and as a result the quality and reliability goes out the door. Hence I do most myself. Was contemplating the second half of my deck as fixed roof , but loved the idea of opening roof, so made enquires. Matt came out and we had a great chat about Japanese gardens... oh and sorted out the design basics and the colours and quotes , good bloke. lance came out and did the check measure , good bloke, then came install time. Enter Mark and Dean - couldn’t Find 2 blokes that have more pride in what they do... for me it’s the little things they did to give a better result for me, the owner, that really showed they cared about what they did, fixed existing flashing, customised others to show more wood grain in my beams, thought through the pitch of the roof and how the different components would look best for me and my neighbours.. impressive. Great quality build, cleaned up every night and spotless on completion, and good blokes. Can’t praise enough to be honest. The only thing I would say is the wood grain finish can be deceptive when relying on the swatch colours. Matt and I matched the closest to my existing wooden posts but the resulting colour ends up, in the sun, lighter than expected, this isn’t a fault of the guys as I agreed to the same colour. I wanted wood grain finish on all the posts and beams , I wouldn’t have gone with this option if it wasn’t available and it looks great, it’s just lighter than expected when on large surface area and in the sun. Great job guys, highly recommend this team.

Though the installation was delayed on account of the torrential rain the installation team of two (Tim & Carl) worked very efficiently and completed the job within 8 days. I was pleased with their professional approach and prompt support after installation.
Overall a good experience dealing with ORS team. Open roof at home looks and functions really good. Product quality and craftsmanship is exceptional.
